How we work
Our strategy
A low-overhead, volunteer-led charity that follows the law closely and measures its work against global goals.
Volunteering excellence
ACT in Sri Lanka runs on voluntary service, which keeps our overheads low. Projects are need-based and volunteer-led: we work with each community to find out what support it really needs.
Statutory compliance
The law guides our daily operations, and we take every reasonable step to comply with it. We involve legal experts in strategic decisions so that Sri Lanka’s legal framework shapes our long-term planning and our financial reporting.
Service growth
We grow through close, family-like bonds in our team, love shown through action and a shared respect for selfless service. Our causes range from small initiatives by one or two people to larger partnerships with other organisations.
Aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals
We focus on the first six of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. Our programs contribute to these targets:
| Goal | Program | Targets |
|---|---|---|
| 1 · No poverty | ACT4Hunger | 1.1, 1.2 |
| 2 · Zero hunger | ACT4Hunger | 2.1, 2.2 |
| 3 · Good health and well-being | ACT4Vision | 3.8 |
| 4 · Quality education | ACT4Education | 4.1, 4.2, 4.3 |
| 5 · Gender equality | ACT4Women (planned) | 5.1, 5.6 |
| 6 · Clean water and sanitation | ACT4WASH | 6.1, 6.2 |
